This Level 2 Award in Proportionate/Single-Handed Care (610/5521/9) is a RoSPA-accredited qualification that sits on the Ofqual register and focuses on promoting a person-centred approach, encouraging a safer, more dignified and flexible way of delivering care that respects the independence of individuals. While also ensuring both carers and those receiving care benefit from practices grounded in best evidence and aligned with regulatory expectations.

This is the UK’s first Level 2 Ofqual-regulated qualification focused on proportionate (single-handed) care—setting a new standard in the health and social care sector. 

Aims and Objectives:

• Understanding principles of proportionate care, including assessing when and how to shift from two-person to safe one-person delivery of care.
• Apply practical moving and handling skills, including standing transfers with mechanical/manual aids, safe care in bed and proper hoisting techniques and sling usage.
• To complete a regulated training experience - the course spans approximately 8 hours of structured, quality-assured instruction.
• Empower personalised, dignified care - enhance privacy, independence, flexibilty and confidence for both carers and service users.
• Build efficiency in care delivery to reduce unnecessary duplication of care, ease operational pressures, and support better use of resources.
